Top Trucking Services Companies

Shippers hire trucking companies to move freight by road: full truckload and less-than-truckload van freight, flatbed and step-deck loads for building materials and machinery, tanker and bulk hauls, drayage from ports and rail yards, and dedicated fleets assigned to one customer's lanes. Manufacturers, distributors and retailers usually go looking when a carrier misses pickups, rates jump on a key lane, or a new plant or warehouse opens.

This page lists asset-based carriers alongside brokers and logistics firms. Filter for the equipment you need and the lanes you run, and check reviews for on-time pickup, damage claims and how dispatch handles problems on the road.

Hiring Trucking Services companies

What the work covers, how to judge a partner and what drives the price.

What trucking services companies haul and how

Carriers specialize by equipment and freight type. Dry van carriers move palletized goods; reefers handle temperature-controlled food and pharmaceuticals; flatbed, step-deck and lowboy trailers carry steel, lumber and oversize equipment; tankers and end dumps carry liquids, asphalt, sand and gravel. Less-than-truckload carriers consolidate partial loads through terminals, while full truckload carriers run one shipper's freight from dock to dock.

Buying patterns vary. Spot loads are booked one at a time at market rates. Contract freight is awarded through a lane bid with rates held for a set period and committed volumes. Dedicated contract carriage assigns trucks and drivers to the shipper's network, often with the carrier's branding removed and the shipper's schedule built around it.

Around the haul itself, carriers provide tracking through ELD and GPS data, appointment scheduling, proof of delivery, cross-border paperwork for US and Canada lanes, and accessorial services such as liftgate, inside delivery and team drivers.

Trucking Services FAQs

Short answers to what buyers ask before hiring a Trucking Services company.

Question not covered? Ask our team

Trucking companies offer full truckload, less-than-truckload, flatbed and oversize, temperature-controlled, tanker and drayage hauling, plus dedicated fleets for single customers. Most add tracking, appointment scheduling and proof of delivery, and many also provide warehousing, cross-docking or freight brokerage through a sister operation.

Truckload rates are usually per mile or per load plus a fuel surcharge, LTL rates depend on freight class, weight and distance, and dedicated fleets carry a weekly fixed fee plus mileage. Lane balance, equipment, season and accessorials such as detention move the total. Most carriers here have no minimum or start at $1,000.

A trucking company, or asset-based carrier, owns or leases trucks and employs or contracts the drivers who haul your freight. A freight broker holds broker authority and arranges the load with a carrier, earning the spread. Brokers offer reach and fast capacity; carriers offer direct accountability. Many logistics firms run both.

Look up the USDOT and MC numbers in FMCSA records, or the CVOR or NSC certificate in Canada, and confirm the authority is active and matches the company name. Ask for insurance certificates direct from the insurer, check safety ratings and inspection history, and be wary of new authorities offering unusually low rates.

Carriers listed here mostly serve supply chain and logistics firms, manufacturers, consumer products companies, retailers, business services, automotive and medical suppliers. Manufacturers often need flatbed and dedicated capacity, retailers need scheduled store deliveries, and medical and food shippers need reefer equipment.

Carriers are listed most often in Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan and Brampton, with others in Dallas, Houston, New York and Anchorage. For trucking, terminal and yard location matters more than head office, so check that a carrier has drivers based near your origin points and runs regularly on your lanes.
