Founded in 1973 by Elie Antar and his brothers Morris and Isaac, Valu-Plus began as one of Philadelphia's pioneering discount variety stores, initially named Value Stores. Their inaugural location in downtown Philadelphia was met with overwhelming demand, evidenced by long queues that wrapped around the block during opening week. Recognizing their winning approach, the Antar brothers expanded their vision in 1987 by importing products internationally. Over thirty years, Valu-Plus evolved into a significant regional chain serving urban consumers across Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Maryland with affordable, quality goods. The company maintained its commitment to efficient fulfillment and top-tier service at accessible prices until its sale in 2011.
