Health Action International commissioned a film to showcase innovative, community-driven efforts addressing the diabetes crisis in Tanzania and Kyrgyzstan. The narrative centers on Lucy, a passionate volunteer in Tanzania, and Baktygul, a nurse in Kyrgyzstan, both dedicated to empowering their communities through education and care. Collaborating with local filmmakers, including guidance from their Managing Director on-site in Tanzania, the project authentically captured the real-life impact of these initiatives. Lucy’s peer education aids families in diabetes prevention and management, while Baktygul’s training enables nurses to provide vital home care, easing hospital burdens. This film underscores the effectiveness of grassroots and systemic solutions working in tandem and celebrates women's leadership in fostering meaningful healthcare improvements worldwide.
