AI Product Branding - Fathom
Fathom is an AI meeting assistant designed to enhance every conversation by improving focus, aligning teams, and revealing insights that drive progress. However, despite being the leading product in its field and fostering genuine affection from users, Fathom faced the risk of being categorized as just another AI note-taking tool. Competitors focused on feature lists and enterprise dashboards, making it difficult to stand out. To differentiate itself, Fathom needed a brand that reflected users' feelings of trust, relief, and joy, rather than relying solely on technology.
The main challenge was to elevate Fathom above the noise of its category and build a brand capable of scaling from individual users to teams and executives, all while maintaining a friendly, human-centered approach and infusing some personality to establish Fathom as the true market leader. Our process began with deep listening. During discovery workshops, the team shared a remarkable sentiment commonly expressed by SaaS users: their genuine love for the product. This revelation became our guiding principle for creating a brand that felt more human, addressing emotional needs alongside practical ones.
We redefined Fathom as “the power behind your best work,” transitioning its image from merely a note-taking tool to an essential meeting partner that alleviates mental strain and turns discussions into actionable momentum. The messaging was crafted to resonate across various audiences—from individual users to teams and executives—while maintaining a consistent core promise. To support this, we shaped Fathom's identity as an innovative, grounded, and resourceful partner, using a tone that conveyed precision, calm, and enthusiasm, exuding confidence without being overbearing.
The revamped brand has provided Fathom with a scalable voice and identity, evolving from a cherished free tool for individuals to an essential platform for teams and organizations. By embracing its unique personality and fostering user appreciation, Fathom has broken free from the conventional B2B norm of bland, utilitarian branding.
