The Winnona Partners team had the privilege of working alongside Science ATL to develop the Race Through Space – Galaxy Edition mobile app! This app can be downloaded for free from both the App Store and Google Play. It was created in collaboration with Randstad, Emory University, and the Georgia Space Grant Consortium. **App Overview** Embark on an extraordinary journey as the first human to explore other galaxies by running an incredible distance that feels like just 5 kilometers! You've signed up for trials of a groundbreaking intergalactic device that utilizes your movement and bends the rules of physics. As you progress, you'll discover real galaxies in the universe and learn about their distinct features. If the technology holds up, your 5K adventure will end with a breathtaking encounter with a supermassive black hole from which there’s no return! Race Through Space offers a unique fitness experience that not only educates you about various celestial bodies but also helps you understand their actual distances, where 5 kilometers equates to roughly 55 million light years. Your journey kicks off in the Milky Way, our home galaxy (and yes, it’s more than just a candy bar!). You'll traverse different galaxies with names like Sombrero, Needle, Black Eye, and Whirlpool, eventually reaching the first known black hole captured in a photograph: the supermassive black hole at the heart of the M87 galaxy. This narrated audio adventure is designed to educate and entertain, allowing you to listen to your own music between cosmic stops while showcasing real images of the celestial wonders you encounter. Presented by the (fictional) SpaceNEXT Industries with support from (real) Science ATL, we're thrilled to turn a typical 5K event into a thrilling science-filled experience! Even if running isn't your thing, we challenge you to download Race Through Space and walk, bike, or even ride an ironic unicycle through it—whatever suits you!
