Magento E-learning Marketplace Speed Optimization

Teaching Me

**OVERVIEW** Teaching Me is a leading Australian e-learning and tutoring marketplace that operates on a Magento platform. Upon reaching out to us, they expressed concerns regarding their website's slow load speed. **CHALLENGE** A thorough analysis of Teaching Me revealed several significant problems: - Poorly optimized server - Inferior third-party extensions - Unoptimized images - Lack of page caching These issues resulted in the website making 117 server requests, causing users to wait over 20 seconds for the homepage to fully load. **SOLUTION** We decided to move away from the old hosting service and opted for a dedicated server with an Australian provider that specializes in Magento. We combined and minified CSS and JS files, which notably decreased the number of HTTP requests. We also optimized images to meet the required size and weight while maintaining quality. The majority of the third-party extensions in use were low-quality, containing buggy code that hampered the performance of internal requests and other processes on the platform. Additionally, these extensions frequently conflicted with one another. We replaced some of the substandard extensions with better alternatives and resolved bugs in the remaining ones. Furthermore, we installed and configured the Full Page Cache extension. **RESULT** The initial four steps improved the site’s loading speed by 5 seconds overall, reducing the Teaching Me speed from 22 to 17 seconds. However, the addition of the Full Page Cache extension drastically cut the load time from 17 seconds to just 4 seconds! The client observed a significant enhancement in user engagement, a steady rise in traffic, and a 23% increase in the conversion rate!

Development of Custom Shipping Apps & Extensions

ShipHawk

ShipHawk is a prominent transportation platform that connects retailers, manufacturers, and distributors with major shipping companies in the U.S. as well as around 200 smaller carriers. Their objective was to create integrations for popular e-commerce platforms to provide efficient shipping solutions. THE CHALLENGE The transportation industry has unique factors that we considered when creating a shipping cost estimation algorithm. The shipping cost can vary based on the product's physical dimensions or volumetric weight. Additionally, products within the same online store may be stored in different warehouses, and when multiple products are ordered, each item's shipping cost must be calculated individually. Standard shipping modules like UPS, USPS, and FedEx only provide shipping cost estimates, with the subsequent parcel processing typically managed manually or through third-party software. We needed to ensure that all steps, from receiving the delivery request to producing the shipping label, were executed automatically or triggered after order confirmation. THE SOLUTION The extension development occurred in two phases: One was a comprehensive solution for Magento 1, Shopify, and WooCommerce, which involved significant effort in incorporating product dimension attributes and calculating parcel sizes for accurate shipping cost estimations. The other involved creating modules for Magento 2 and X-Cart, which download new orders from the e-commerce admin panel to ShipHawk and return order dispatch confirmations and tracking details to the CMS. THE RESULT With the launch of the ShipHawk extensions, e-commerce stores can now: - Connect with numerous delivery carriers and shipping providers - Establish shipping policies at the shipment or product level - Import product information with a single click - Seamlessly sync orders for simpler fulfillment - Automate all processes from booking to delivery - Obtain all necessary shipping documentation, etc.
