OUR STORY
**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your organization and its purpose. The National Garden Bureau is a non-profit entity dedicated to horticulture and gardening, where I serve as the executive director.
**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What issue were you seeking to resolve with Verve Marketing? Our website was outdated, lacked mobile compatibility, and was difficult to manage and navigate. We needed assistance in creating a new site.
**SOLUTION**
What was their level of involvement? Verve Marketing assisted us in selecting key images for our homepage and determining their optimal arrangement. Our previous site structure was not user-friendly, particularly with the navigation tabs at the top. Verve Marketing guided us in deciding the content for those tabs and their dropdown menus. We examined how to organize each section of the homepage to convey its significance in the site's overall design. While we had most of the content ready, Verve Marketing helped us refine it and decide where it should be placed.
**How did you choose to work with Verve Marketing?**
We reached out to Verve Marketing along with five or six other firms. It was crucial for us that they had analyzed our existing site and understood our needs through their insightful questions. Serendipitously, Verve Marketing was located just a few miles away, allowing for convenient in-person meetings. I appreciated their strategic approach, which involved asking us about our goals, the hierarchy of the information, our target audience, and the desired aesthetic. The initial proposal encompassed not only the redevelopment of our site using WordPress but also enhancements and new features. Their approach prioritized content over design, which I found compelling; I believed that the structure and flow were more critical at that stage than the visual aspects.
**How much did you invest with Verve Marketing?**
The total cost for Verve Marketing's services was $45,000 for the development of two websites.
**What is the current status of this engagement?**
We began collaborating with Verve Marketing in June 2016, and by November, we had launched a secondary site. Our partnership is ongoing, with plans for a second phase for both websites. Due to budget constraints, we started with basic features and intend to add more over time.
**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you provide any evidence of the effectiveness, quality of work, or impact of this collaboration? Our main website is now entering its second month live. Unfortunately, Google Analytics experienced a shutdown for three days in the first month, making it difficult to compare traffic data with our previous site. However, we have seen daily increases in visitor numbers. Feedback from users, including garden writers and members, has been overwhelmingly positive, praising the site’s aesthetics and usability. I can confidently say we’re attracting new members due to the revamped design.
**How did Verve Marketing perform in terms of project management?**
Working with them was a great experience. We initially struggled with the first website because we didn’t plan adequately, but Verve Marketing helped us address those issues, making the second project smooth. We understood what was required from us and when to deliver it, enabling timely and accurate submissions from their team. They advised us to create a spreadsheet for mapping new and old URLs, which guided us throughout the process and was invaluable during our discussions.
**What impressed you most about Verve Marketing?**
Meeting with their principal revealed her ability to help us refine our vision and adjust aspects of the website with her strategic insights. She acted as a true business partner, aiding us in achieving our goals, some of which we hadn’t even fully recognized.
**Are there any areas for improvement for Verve Marketing?**
Any minor issues we encountered with the first site were quickly resolved for the second one, so I don’t believe it’s fair to focus on those now that they’ve been addressed. A bit more training on the WordPress backend would have been beneficial for us since we don't have much experience, but this is common as many users are already familiar with the system. Overall, I was very satisfied with the outcome.
**What tips or suggestions do you have for fostering success with Verve Marketing?**
I recommend using the same agency for multiple projects to streamline the process and enhance collaboration.
