We founded Variant Systems after years of developing various products, including healthcare platforms, fintech solutions, and SaaS at different stages. Then, AI tools significantly advanced. Suddenly, founders using tools like Cursor could construct an application in just one afternoon. Copilot could generate boilerplate code more quickly than a junior developer, and platforms like Bolt and Lovable could create entire frontends from just a description. While the results appeared impressive, the reality became clear when we examined the repositories. We began receiving calls: "We created this using AI, but now it's slow." "We're seeking funds, and investors want a code review." "We acquired this company and need to understand what we actually purchased." Each time, we noticed the same issue: AI-generated code that was delivered quickly but eventually hit a performance barrier that no amount of tweaking could resolve. This barrier is our area of expertise. We are AI-empowered, not solely AI-enabled—skilled engineers who use AI as a tool, not as a substitute.
