Acme Bread Company, a beloved staple of the Bay Area, embarked on an exciting expansion in Berkeley in 2023 by acquiring two buildings on San Pablo Avenue. They enlisted Trachtenberg Architects, led by David Trachtenberg and Amy Chang, to create a dynamic new space that blends tradition and innovation. This project revitalizes one existing structure into a wholesale bakery while introducing a new two-story building dedicated to retail and a café. The café notably opens into a beautifully shaded central courtyard, enhancing the customer experience. Supporting roles include an upcoming structural engineer and general contractor, with TopLeaf Farms contributing expertise in urban agriculture and landscape design.
