This dwelling was crafted as a series of interconnected pavilions, drawing inspiration from the harmony with nature characteristic of traditional Japanese architecture. The design and planning of the site were executed in partnership with landscape architect Brent Cottong, resulting in a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living areas, clear sight lines, and view corridors. The home is situated around existing natural features, such as a historic Coast Live Oak tree, a grove of redwoods, and a seasonal creek. The interior is filled with natural light that enhances the ambiance of the space. The design's geometry and window placements optimize natural illumination while adhering to energy-efficient, climate-responsive solar design principles. Solar orientation photos were taken across the site to inform a solar study, which played a crucial role in shaping the design.
