A slam-dunk design for an NBA icon
The Boston Celtics are revamping their IT infrastructure, having been a respected client of TSP since 2001. TSP has provided various technical support services for the organization, from AV setup in conference rooms to enhancing the WiFi at Celtics headquarters. In 2018, the Celtics commissioned us to design the core network for their new Auerbach Center Practice Facility in Allston, which entailed a comprehensive IT infrastructure overhaul. More recently, TSP was invited to serve as a design consultant for the AV and collaboration technology at their new headquarters near the Boston Garden.
One of the significant challenges we faced at the Auerbach Center Practice Facility was how to design a dependable and efficient core network capable of managing over 42TB of data each week, which included real-time audio and video for players, coaches, staff, and media. To tackle these issues, we compiled a comprehensive list of products and developed a complete network design. Together with the client, we chose Meraki access points, switches, and firewalls, and we evaluated both painted and vinyl-wrapped access points to find the best balance between wireless functionality and aesthetics.
Our team created a "virtual" network design on paper and configured the Meraki systems even before their arrival, enabling a completely 'engineer-free' installation. The Celtics' in-house IT team installed the equipment using the detailed plans we provided, with configurations accessible via the cloud once the devices were powered on. Additionally, the Meraki dashboard allowed us to remotely oversee and resolve any installation challenges the Celtics' IT staff faced.
