**Problem Statement:** Timber merchants and furniture retailers across the UK need to meet customer demands by processing orders, locating inventory in their warehouses, and ensuring timely delivery of products. For over ten years, a software application called Autocube has been used in the timber and furniture sectors to assist businesses in fulfilling customer orders. However, Autocube was designed to operate on Psion devices, which are no longer produced and have become increasingly hard to procure for businesses needing replacements. Devon Hardwoods has identified an opportunity to develop a replacement for Autocube, initially for their own use, with plans to offer it to other members of the UK Timber Trade Federation. Although the new application has extensive future potential, its first version aims to replicate the existing capabilities of Autocube through a mobile app compatible with Android and iOS devices.
**Taritas’ Solution:** The Taritas team held initial meetings with Devon Hardwoods to understand and document their needs. This led to the creation of a detailed, indexed requirements document. Once approved, we developed wireframes and prototypes based on the specifications. After additional meetings to finalize these prototypes, we entered the development phase. We selected Xamarin Forms as the technology for creating the mobile applications for both Android and iOS. This choice allowed the client to save time and costs compared to traditional development methods. In addition to the mobile apps, Taritas also assisted in building a web application for their support and administrative staff to manage orders. The outcome was a new solution delivered just in time to replace the outdated Autocube system.
