The client was a 50-year-old retail business aiming to update their technology systems and enhance personalization on a larger scale. Most of their sales were generated through distributors and partners, and they sought to expand their online commerce operations. I was brought in to examine their existing technology and data, pinpoint shortcomings in tools and practices for achieving better marketing personalization, and propose a MarTech stack that would allow for a gradual improvement in personalized marketing strategies. With a relatively small database and marketing team, I began by assessing their current situation and how they were communicating with customers and prospects. During this discovery phase, I found that their marketing tactics were being executed in isolation and in a rather inconsistent manner. Moreover, the campaign content was primarily based on previous seasonal efforts, lacking fresh ideas. Over the years, their tech stack had expanded, resulting in a complex system of tools that served individual purposes but often malfunctioned without clear identification of the issues.
