Trials.ai aims to accelerate the delivery of treatments to patients by enhancing the clinical trial design process through the use of AI and machine learning. I am one of the co-founders and serve as the Chief Technology Officer, acting as the primary architect for the organization. **OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE** For what projects/services did your company engage Stermedia, and what were your objectives? We brought Stermedia on board to assist in developing an application designed to transform the traditional methods that research teams use to design clinical trials. Our approach involves extracting extensive data from trial-related documents sourced from clients and the public domain. **SOLUTION** How did you choose this vendor, and what influenced your decision? We were introduced to Stermedia through connections we made during the DreamIt Startup accelerator program. We evaluated several specialized boutique firms in AI and machine learning but ultimately chose Stermedia due to their excellent recommendations and the high quality of their work at a competitive price. **Scope of Work** Please detail the project's scope, including the steps, key deliverables, and technologies used. The project focused on creating machine learning-based solutions for our application, centered around two main areas: implementing natural language processing with BERT and other transformer technologies to analyze healthcare documents, and developing machine learning models to forecast trial outcomes based on design inputs. Most of the work was executed in Python, with key outputs being trained models for various NLP tasks and models predicting trial impact. **Vendor Team** How many members from the vendor's team collaborated with you, and what were their roles? The project team from Stermedia consisted of two data scientists. Their machine learning expertise was invaluable; in addition, the Stermedia scrum team assisted in the software development of the web application, handling the frontend in Angular and the backend in Python by rewriting portions of the code and adding new functionalities and micro-services deployed on Docker. **RESULTS & FEEDBACK** Can you share any measurable results from the project or general feedback about the deliverables? Throughout nearly a year of collaboration, Stermedia’s Data Scientists developed an intuitive framework that facilitates the deployment of new analytical tasks and contributed to the design and implementation of analytical solutions, including a set of heuristics for identifying concepts in medical texts. **Project Management Style** Describe their project management approach, including communication tools and punctuality. Stermedia was flexible in using our existing organizational tools such as Asana, Slack, and Google Workspace. Although I initially had concerns about potential issues arising from the time difference, communication throughout the project proved to be smooth and effective. **Impressions** What impressed you the most about this company? The quality of work from Stermedia is just one of their strengths; they also maintain exceptional communication practices and consistently meet deadlines. It felt as though the 8 time zones between us had no impact! They offered significant value and became integral members of our team. **Areas for Improvement** Is there anything they could improve or do differently? They were always responsive to my feedback and consistently surpassed my expectations. I can't identify any aspect that requires enhancement, and I would gladly collaborate with this team again if the opportunity arose.
