Brand Refresh for the UK's Largest Fabric Retailer
Minerva is the UK's largest fabric retailer, focusing on high-quality dress fabrics. Although they have a strong unique selling proposition (USP), their brand identity did not align with it, prompting us to step in and enhance their image.
**The Brief – Their Requirements**
Minerva has over 100,000 items available for same-day worldwide dispatch, but their website operates more like a social platform. Customers purchase fabrics, design garments, and share photos of their creations, fostering a large community and innovative user-driven promotion. While they initially sought a simple brand refresh, we determined that a complete redesign was essential.
**Initial Investigations – Our Approach**
The name Minerva is derived from the Roman goddess of wisdom, war, art, education, justice, and commerce. Although these attributes are complex, they didn't align entirely with the brand. We concluded that Minerva required a new identity that did not depend on the goddess's image.
**The Solution – Our Actions**
Minerva's core values are centered on the three C’s: creativity, craft, and community. Their previous logo did not capture these elements, so we designed a vibrant, bold, and adaptable logo that serves as a visual representation of these qualities. Additionally, we established a comprehensive brand identity, which includes refreshed typography, an updated color palette, and a set of interchangeable graphics that emphasize Minerva’s values. This new identity more accurately reflects their community-oriented, creative, and craft-focused ethos while modernizing their visual representation.
