Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
The Narrative It’s truly tragic that many victims of child abuse go undiagnosed or are misdiagnosed by healthcare professionals, often due to a lack of awareness of the warning signs. When it comes to those who are most vulnerable, we cannot afford to make errors. Despite the abundance of research on identifying abuse, much of it remains unknown. Dr. Mary Clyde Pierce, a leading authority in this area, along with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, recognized the need to provide clinicians with easy access to vital child abuse data. Mobile App Development UX Design Healthcare Solutions Taking Action By closely collaborating with Dr. Pierce, emergency room nurses, pediatricians, and other medical professionals, we explored ways to efficiently disseminate knowledge about child abuse. Our discussions highlighted the necessity for a mobile-friendly and user-friendly solution. Additionally, the app needed to be engaging, interactive, and firmly supported by reliable data. Given HIPAA regulations, it was crucial to ensure that no patient information was collected or stored. Objectives Achieving Our Goals We are thrilled to announce that the app is now live and available for free download! Clinicians can respond to questions about signs and symptoms and document patient injuries on a 3D interactive model of the human body. The app incorporates extensive research, much of which was developed by Dr. Pierce, and aims to educate healthcare providers on improving their ability to identify abusive situations. Ultimately, the app has been released at no cost and is being promoted worldwide as a new standard for best practices in recognizing potential child abuse.
