AR Apps for LORD Corp.
LORD Corporation is a diversified manufacturing firm that creates adhesives, coatings, motion management devices, and sensing technologies for sectors like aerospace, automotive, and oil & gas. They sought a suite of augmented reality (AR) applications to present their products, which can be found in nearly every vehicle globally. At trade shows or conferences, attendees can interact with the company's offerings using tablets or AR smart glasses. By directing the device at a physical scaled model of a vehicle, users can explore a 3D X-ray visualization that appears to hover over and within the model. They can tap on highlighted components, such as brakes, motors, and battery packs, to learn more about them. In my role as AR Producer, I was responsible for creative direction, project management, and leading technology and innovation efforts. I guided the teams throughout the development of these AR applications, from planning and design to software and hardware development, culminating in the project's completion. The process involved designing, CAD modeling, and 3D printing of the scale models, implementing 3D AR tracking to align physical and virtual components, and developing all hardware and iOS app software for the wirelessly controlled display turntable. The final AR Car app debuted at the Electric & Hybrid Car Show in Stuttgart, Germany, from May 7-9, 2019, where it garnered significant attention and quickly became a key highlight of LORD's innovative marketing campaign, ultimately contributing to the company's acquisition by Parker Hannifin for $3.67 billion.
