Running Fitness App with Native Device Integration
Client: The client is a leading hardware manufacturing company based in Asia.
Objective: The Scriptide team was assigned to transform the unmanageable codebase into a manageable, modern, and scalable solution that could accommodate future updates. In addition to enhancing the existing app, we were tasked with developing a similar app with a different purpose, utilizing a shared codebase for both applications.
Process:
Tech Stack and Technical Challenges: The most significant hurdle we faced was the poor quality of the code from the outset. After years of careless and poorly planned development, the app's code was in a dire state. It was outdated, poorly structured, and lacked modularity. Our goal was to modernize crucial elements of the code while preserving the existing logic and functionality. Additionally, since the client preferred to continue using the Apache Cordova framework rather than transition to React Native, Flutter, or Native, we had to create custom native plugins and adapt existing Cordova plugins. Once we had organized the code, we also needed to tackle the integration of both apps with a shared login system, secure storage, and hardware management.
Outcome: We consistently delivered on schedule, and this project was no different. Having collaborated with the team for the past two years, we were able to quickly make the application modular, maintainable, and extensible.
