About the Team
OUR STORY
**BACKGROUND** Introduce your business and its operations. Above the Fray Design, Inc. is a comprehensive e-commerce design and development agency focusing on Magento and other platforms. As a co-founder, I handle business development for the company.
**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE** What issue were you aiming to tackle with QA Madness? In prior roles, I participated in various software and e-commerce development teams that attempted to manage quality assurance (QA) internally, often relying on developers, project managers, and even business development staff to oversee it. This approach frequently resulted in chaos and has been one of the most detrimental experiences I've encountered; a project can falter at the last moment despite significant effort. We sought a solution for this situation but were reluctant to hire a full QA team as it would exceed our requirements. Consequently, we turned to QA Madness for support.
**SOLUTION** What was their level of involvement? QA Madness engaged with us right from the project initiation. They anticipated which aspects would require QA as we completed modules or specific sections, conducting thorough testing across various devices, platforms, browsers, and screen sizes. As we neared the launch phase and prior to user acceptance testing, they meticulously compared the entire website against the scope of work while consulting with us to confirm accuracy. Although it's impossible to catch everything, this method helped us eliminate 95% of the issues that clients would typically highlight.
What does their team structure look like? I collaborated with one of their sales managers.
**How did you start working with QA Madness?** They have a strong reputation in the e-commerce sector, particularly with Magento. Several respected colleagues of mine had positive experiences with them, and their effective email campaign caught my attention. When I inquired about the team, a contact at another company also praised them as the best.
**How much have you invested with them?** Across three projects, we've allocated between $15,000 and $20,000 for their services.
**What is the current status of this engagement?** We began collaborating with them in July or August 2017. To date, we've completed three projects together and intend to continue our partnership.
**RESULTS & FEEDBACK** What evidence can you provide that shows the impact of this collaboration? While we are a relatively new company, our team brings years of industry experience. My business partner and I have put together what I believe is a top-tier team, but this was our first opportunity to work together in this capacity. We aimed to dispel myths regarding inadequate development, missed deadlines, and dissatisfied clients. Our first launched site received high praise from the client regarding QA; they had very few follow-up tickets, most of which related to design tweaks rather than QA issues. Every client we've worked with alongside QA Madness has expressed immense satisfaction with their services.
**How did QA Madness perform in terms of project management?** Their communication was superb, with no delays, even during holiday periods. They provided advance notice of any scheduling conflicts and often made themselves available despite previous commitments. They are very responsive to client needs and deadlines, and they adhere strictly to estimates, scopes, and quotes. I have no complaints; they are an invaluable part of our extended team, and I couldn't ask for better project management support. Our team collaborates through platforms like Skype, VoIP calls, and email, and I’m also connected with their managers on Facebook.
**What impressed you most about them?** The significant boost to client satisfaction resulting from their contributions stands out. Their communication rhythm is excellent, and they avoid over-complicating the QA process, which helps maintain schedules. After the hard work done by our designers, engineers, developers, project managers, and system analysts, having their team ensure a polished final delivery, resulting in client happiness, is invaluable.
**Are there areas where they could improve?** I always strive to provide constructive feedback and am usually good at it. However, I have no improvements to suggest as they are thorough and professional. I hold them in high regard.
**What advice would you give to future clients?** It's essential to be proactive and not hesitate to engage with them. Provide as much information as possible to enable them to perform their role effectively. Engage early in the process; we consulted with them before the project began, which proved beneficial. Without allowing them time to prepare, they could have faced challenges at the last minute.
