Satellite and geospatial data for mining decisions

The app was designed to enhance data management and minimize reliance on paper documents. CHALLENGE We undertook a thorough Product Discovery process to meet their requirements. This included detailed research, data assessment, idea generation, and exploring potential solutions. PRODUCT DISCOVERY User-focused investigation: We employed both qualitative and quantitative research methods to gain insights into the target users, their behaviors, and motivations. This approach ensures a design centered around users and provides a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced. Data assessment and persona development: By conducting extensive data analysis, we established problem statements and created persona archetypes to effectively guide our design process. Identifying needs: OUR SOLUTION Building on insights obtained from the Product Discovery stage, we suggested creating three distinct applications aimed at improving efficiency and optimization: IDE (Integrated Development Environment): A strong framework specifically designed to manage satellite and geospatial data efficiently. Mobile app: An easy-to-use platform that enables inspectors and on-site professionals to perform tasks and generate reports using geospatial data from publicly available satellites. Web app: A supportive platform to the mobile app, allowing for the creation, assignment, and management of tasks, which speeds up operations and ensures proper data registration and tracking.

IDB social network for global trade

CHALLENGE: To create the first entrepreneurial social network that facilitates business engagement among companies in Latin America and the Caribbean by promoting international trade and investment. PROJECT OVERVIEW: We built custom core components for the platform along with various White Labels designed for different countries, all of which integrate smoothly with the platform's registered data. Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS and operates using continuous integration pipelines set up with Jenkins. We manage servers with Ansible and monitor them with CloudWatch, as well as Icinga/Nagios. This approach enables us to deliver a robust and highly available solution tailored to the unique requirements of each client and region. RESULTS: The ConnectAmericas Academy platform now provides registered users with the opportunity to enroll in courses focused on business and international trade, helping them enhance their business skills. The business social network connects over 160 countries and 220,000 entrepreneurs. Technology stack includes AWS, Docker, Jenkins, PHP, Drupal, Angular, and Ansible.

Navigating technological disruption in the media

CHALLENGE The goal was to comprehend what audiences were seeking due to the technological upheaval in the mass media sector. This initiative was backed by the Google News Initiative (GNI). ABOUT THE PROJECT The project commenced with in-depth field visits and interviews with stakeholders to identify the current challenges. Collaborative workshops were held to define the problem area, followed by visual exploration and prototyping. Validation tests confirmed that the solutions met user needs. The process ended with the creation of high-fidelity prototypes and thorough usability testing, paving the way for impactful solutions. RESULT Our team found that residents in small cities prefer hyperlocal content and are accustomed to listening to the radio. We concluded that media outlets should provide audio content via an app and enable users to share information about their communities simultaneously. Based on this research, Patagonian developed a web and mobile application for the newspaper.
