Brand and Product for Flightcontrol

Internal IT, while essential, can also be quite challenging. However, even the most clear and intuitive UX/UI can't address all issues. A tech company backed by YCombinator approached us with a bold goal: to transform their brand and product from a do-it-yourself phase to a top-tier offering. We were immediately impressed by their fantastic team and got to work. The project can be divided into phases: after the successful launch, we continue to support Flightcontrol on a retainer basis, providing feature updates, website revisions, and some marketing materials. We have also become partners in the company by taking part of our payment in equity.

Logo Design for Prisma

Prisma and Overnice have a long history that dates back to when the deep-tech startup was known as Graphcool, prior to successfully securing their pre-seed funding. When they rebranded as Prisma, we were assigned to design the new logo. Utilizing a pyramid shape proved to be more challenging than anticipated, as it had strong associations with Pink Floyd’s legendary Dark Side of the Moon album. However, after numerous sketches and experiments, we realized that the pyramid was the most compelling shape, and its association with Pink Floyd could actually enhance its appeal. Prisma’s core function involves aligning databases and the code that interacts with them, making the light-bending qualities of a prism an apt metaphor. Nevertheless, we aimed to develop a logo that would be distinctive and recognizable even in monochrome, ruling out any use of rainbows. Drawing inspiration from Pink Floyd again, we found that incorporating light and dark elements into the prism led to a dynamic, striking, and adaptable icon that could be rendered in any color, embellished with effects, and communicate the brand's identity without needing to include its name. The design always maintains a sturdy foundation while dynamically reaching upwards. Achieving the right proportions and dimensions of the pyramid was key to the final outcome. As is often true with minimalistic logos, their simplicity can obscure the complexity and thought that went into their creation. Nonetheless, we are pleased that it made it all the way to Times Square.

Nimiq

Transforming the complex world of cryptocurrency into a simple and user-friendly experience for the average person is the type of challenge we thrive on. Decentralization is a fundamental principle of Web3 and digital currencies, but it poses a significant challenge for user experience. Traditional user behaviors and methods are inadequate; for instance, there's no email login since user data isn't stored. This calls for innovation. Another challenge is creating the right aesthetic. As cryptocurrency is inherently linked to finance, it’s a sensitive topic. However, if the goal is to disrupt the norm, the alternative needs to be engaging. Our user interface strikes a balance—it’s approachable, vibrant, uplifting, and serious when necessary. The UI is organized into three tiers: a base layer that contains settings, accounts, prices, and other meta information; an account layer that aggregates all currencies and facilitates swaps; and a currency layer that handles sending and receiving transactions as well as transaction history. Dealing with crypto is a familiar yet distinct experience for users. They send and receive funds, review past transactions, and occasionally glance at their balance. By steering clear of crypto jargon and adhering to familiar conventions, we can focus users’ attention on the key concepts they need to grasp. Data visualization adds an enjoyable dimension. The Nimiq wallet uniquely connects directly to the blockchain without needing a miner in between, allowing us to display a world map highlighting the wallet’s location alongside users from around the globe. However, security remains a top priority—there's no option for password recovery. Warnings must be comprehensive without overwhelming new users, who are our primary audience. Transitioning between light and dark backgrounds signals users when they should be alert. Ultimately, we have come to appreciate the Nimiq wallet and are eager for its future redesign. The Overnice team also uses it to store various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin.
