Vectorized 90 Years of Data Into AI Search

Consumer Reports

Challenge: Consumer Reports sought to make their 90-year collection of impartial product reviews available through conversational AI while safeguarding against hallucinations, harmful outputs, and off-brand messages that could jeopardize their trusted reputation. Conventional RAG frameworks did not meet CR's strict accuracy standards. Solution: Developed AskCR, a tailored multi-subsystem RAG agent featuring query refinement, dynamic routing, source retrieval, and final synthesis. Incorporated memory for contextual understanding, a product retriever for broader coverage, and a comprehensive evaluation and safety framework. Throughout the process, extensive load testing, red-teaming, and user research were performed. Results: Red-teaming improved guardrail performance by tenfold. The service was launched in a beta program for CR members on both web and mobile platforms, providing personalized product recommendations in the style of a CR expert, utilizing exclusively verified CR data.

Designed AI Vision To Stop Burglars

Simplisafe

**Challenge:** SimpliSafe needed to transform an initial proof-of-concept application into a fully operational Pre-Crime Detection Service. This involved creating onboarding processes, in-app tutorials, and a comprehensive UI/UX that effectively communicated a novel service concept to users while also adhering to facial recognition regulations and compliance requirements. **Solution:** Developed complete mobile applications for iOS and Android, as well as monitoring and QA web applications for the Live Guard Agent. Engaged in multi-day in-person sessions, refined wireframes, executed user testing with an alpha prototype, and gathered feedback from 300 beta customers over a six-month period. Collaborated weekly with the engineering and product teams at the SimpliSafe Innovation Lab. **Results:** The UI/UX design earned a patent and is expected to set a new benchmark for the primary SimpliSafe app. The Pre-Crime Service was launched on the app store in May 2024, leading to new revenue opportunities and an increase in product sales.

Launched to 3 Million Listeners on NPR

Hidden Brain

Challenge: Death by Duck had to create a minimum viable product (MVP) game app inspired by Hidden Brain's podcast content within just one month. The app needed to include a scalable content management system (CMS) that would enable the Hidden Brain team to manage it independently, ensure smooth performance for daily concurrent users, and incorporate a financial model validated during the development process. Solution: NineTwoThree developed the Hidden Brain Daily Challenge app — a facial recognition game that combines scientific concepts with gameplay. It features audio introductions from host Shankar Vedantam, social sharing options, and a CMS that allows the team to introduce new games without requiring engineering assistance. Results: The app was successfully launched on December 5th, fulfilling the one-month timeline. It reached Hidden Brain's audience of 3 million listeners, equipped with a validated financial model and the capacity for future game additions.
