Weatherman
The client aimed to overhaul his existing website to create a modern, dynamic, and user-friendly experience. He had a clear vision of how he wanted a weather website to appear in 2020 and had most of the designs prepared in advance, allowing us to dive into development quickly. We selected React for its exceptional development speed, MongoDB for efficient CRUD operations, and NodeJS for managing high backend loads without being CPU-intensive. The architecture was intentionally kept simple, as anything more complex would have been unnecessary for this project. Ensuring a high search ranking was crucial, so we implemented server-side rendering, a CDN, performance enhancements, multilingual support, sitemaps, and SEO audits. Supporting legacy browsers like IE11 was also essential for a website catering to consumers. To make everything function properly, we integrated our own database of cities and locations with multilingual capabilities, combined data from various sources, and even interacted directly with individual weather stations for more precise information. We believe this may be one of the most detailed consumer weather websites available. Our analysis showed that one web server could easily manage the traffic from the old site, so we deployed it on a single EC2 instance. Anticipating future growth, we also devised a scalable deployment architecture to allow for multiple rendering and backend instances as needed. The site achieved PageSpeed scores of over 90 on desktop and 60+ on mobile, outperforming its competition significantly. It operates quickly, looks modern, and is visually appealing across all platforms. Weather forecasts are quite accurate, and traffic is increasing. The client is pleased, and we're measuring our success through the success of our clients.
