Valnes: next-generation smart door lock

Valnes: Next-Generation Smart Door Lock "We were in search of an engineering team to create the hardware for Valnes’ smart lock system, designed for remote control and improved management of permissions. After announcing a procurement process, Krakul emerged as the sole company that could provide a comprehensive solution from start to finish. Their approach, characterized by a ‘you name it, we’ll do it’ mentality, stood out to us. We appreciated the extra effort their team made to understand our perspective and Valnes’ objectives. Together, we outlined the specifications and requirements, allowing the development process to begin rapidly. Given the complexity of the system and the volume of data and user stories involved, it was a substantial undertaking." – Taavi Kalvik, Head of Department at Valnes Their Background Valnes specializes in manufacturing and selling locking and security solutions, bringing over 27 years of expertise in designing and installing security locks, electronic locks, door automation, and online access systems for various types of buildings. Our Approach The primary goal was to enhance the previous version by incorporating essential features to enable network connectivity. The initial analysis took significant time, leading to the drafting of specifications for the first version. Over the next six months, we held weekly meetings every Friday morning to explore our options. Ultimately, the development plan integrated Valnes’ requirements with our technical expertise. The main challenge throughout was ensuring that the product could integrate seamlessly across 11 different versions. The device needed to be multifunctional and compatible with a broad range of Valnes’ products. Once we created a viable product, we began collaborating with EMSs to gather data for optimization. Evocon: making sense of data

Evocon

Krakul collaborated with Evocon to create an advanced IIoT (industrial internet of things) production monitoring device that can wirelessly collect essential data for analyzing production processes. “Over the past six years, wireless communication has seen significant advancements and stabilization, prompting us to seek a solution that would allow our clients to gather data more efficiently than ever before. Krakul was the only company willing to take on this challenge,” said Erki Viidalepp, Head of Engineering at Evocon. Evocon provides an intuitive OEE software that automates data collection from manufacturing machines and delivers real-time performance insights. Previously, Evocon had developed a production monitoring device alongside a previous partner, which functioned but had a somewhat cumbersome user experience. To create a smarter IIoT production monitoring device, their team approached us with initial specifications. However, based on our previous experience, we recognized the necessity for thorough analysis before we could provide time and cost estimates or commence engineering efforts. Our discussions clarified that their main requirement was the integration of WiFi to enable wireless features, aiming to minimize cables and create a more compact design. Additionally, the device needed to withstand harsh conditions near factory production lines. Ultimately, we developed an excellent IIoT product that met all expectations, and it is now in use across numerous production lines by Evocon’s clients. Snabb

Snabb (formerly Barking) collaborated with Krakul to create an IoT controller that operates and manages their automated car park gates, which is essential for their platform's functionality. “The solutions provided by Krakul have consistently met high standards. This specific hardware they developed for us is crucial for enabling the rest of our operations,” said Kustas Kõiv, CEO of Snabb. Snabb is a software company focused on automating and digitizing various car-related services, such as parking and car washing. Seeking an IoT solution to control car park gates remotely, Snabb turned to Krakul. After designing a custom modem, the team ensured its seamless network connectivity and compatibility with all types of car park gate barriers. Achieving CE certification for the complete system was accomplished smoothly. The entire process, from the initial discussions to the commencement of production and deployment of the final IoT solution, took around 18 months. A significant portion of this time was spent gathering feedback, drawing actionable insights, and making necessary adjustments. After the project was handed over, Krakul assisted Snabb with the installation of the IoT devices at various sites by offering technical support for the integration process.
