Kona Brewing Hard Seltzer

**The Challenge** In 2023, Kona Brewing Co. exited the hard seltzer market, allowing other brands like White Claw and Maui Brewing Co. to take their place. It was time for Kona to re-enter the scene with a fresh approach—not just refreshing or relaunching but introducing something entirely innovative. This new hard seltzer, developed from scratch, aimed to secure a unique spot in the market and make it clear: this is truly Kona. **Our Approach** The task extended beyond simply creating a new product; it involved fostering the right relationship with consumers. As a well-loved brand in the islands known for its beer, Kona needed this hard seltzer to seamlessly fit into its identity: a younger sibling within the same family, offering a different vibe. We developed a visual identity that reflects Kona’s warmth and craftsmanship while establishing its distinct presence. We employed a vibrant fruit illustration style inspired by authentic Hawaiian flavors, granting each variant its own character while ensuring cohesion across the line. The clean white packaging conveys a light and refreshing feel, complemented by bold graphics that make it distinctly recognizable. The phrase "Made Only for Hawai'i" serves not just as a tagline but as the essence of the product. **The Impact** The outcome is a product line that integrates smoothly with the Kona family while exploring new avenues. It exudes the relaxed, vibrant, and authentic essence of Hawaii, extending beyond the can into lifestyle elements, merchandise, and environmental initiatives. When a brand is truly connected to its roots, the design speaks for itself, effortlessly radiating its authenticity. **Deliverables:** Design Strategy · Packaging Design · Visual Identity · Brand World Development · Art Direction · Brand Asset Creation

Excel Gum

Mars

The Mars Excel team sought to update its packaging to better engage Gen Z consumers while also retaining loyalty from its existing customer base and complying with Québec's Bill 96 for bilingual packaging. This redesign created an opportunity to resolve inconsistencies in their product range and set up a scalable design system for future innovations and better shelf visibility. Our team started by examining the buying motivations of Gen Z through consumer trends and category assessments. Using our approach, we focused on enhancing brand visibility, incorporating bilingual elements, and boosting appetite appeal with unique illustrations and product visuals. In partnership with the Mars Insights Team, we validated key concepts through consumer research before applying the new graphics across 40 SKUs. The revamped system is crafted to improve shelf presence, maintain consistency, and aid the brand's growth. Expected to debut in 2025, the system now also includes multi-pack SKUs, display cases, and in-store marketing materials, positioning Excel for greater consumer engagement. Deliverables include Packaging Design, Consumer Research, Illustrations, Product & Packaging Renderings, Design Implementation, and Production Artwork.

McCain

McCain acknowledged the need to revamp its U.S. packaging to improve shopability and clearly differentiate its product lines, all while embodying the spirit and messaging of the new global master brand strategy. This updated approach highlighted the appeal of its delicious offerings presented in a playful and engaging manner. In pursuit of becoming the third-largest brand in the U.S. within five years, McCain aimed to strengthen its brand equity and revitalize its product selection. Working closely with the McCain team, we created a packaging redesign that enhanced shopability and findability, making it simpler for consumers to explore and choose products for their families. Additionally, we integrated the new global brand positioning to help McCain stand out among its competitors on store shelves. Key deliverables included Packaging Design, Consumer Research, Product Photography, Design Implementation, Production Artwork, Digital Rendering, and Packaging Prototyping.
