THE BRIEF: In a distinct co-branded initiative, the SweeTARTS brand created exclusive gummy shapes inspired by popular NCAA college teams, enabling fans to enjoy their favorite candy while supporting their teams. The SweeTARTS team partnered with ICON for product design and to manage campaign executions across various channels. THE RESULT: The existing fan base at each school enthusiastically embraced these limited-edition items, which were sold at college stadiums and bookstores. Besides designing the custom gummy shapes, ICON also produced the complete packaging and point-of-sale displays (including floor stands, countertop displays, and club displays) for each institution, along with the advertising materials and digital graphics showcased on stadium billboards during games.

Big Chewy Nerds Package Design

THE OVERVIEW: After being a beloved candy for many years, the Nerds brand required an updated packaging design to modernize its image. Concurrently, the brand was introducing a new product, Big Chewy Nerds. Ferrara, the parent company, aimed for this product to drive growth and attract a younger audience, specifically millennials and Gen Z. The challenge was the absence of an advertising budget for this launch, meaning that packaging and merchandising needed to play a pivotal role. THE OUTCOME: After conducting research, we identified a significant opportunity to stand out by developing a unique packaging design that was unlike anything else in the candy section. We deviated from standard brand guidelines to feature large close-up images of the Nerds characters, amplifying their vibrant personalities with bold illustrations. This innovative packaging sparked an immediate emotional connection with consumers, leading to rapid growth for the brand and earning an award.

THE OVERVIEW: To take advantage of the growing popularity of smoothie and juice bars, the Nestlé Confections & Snacks Division sought to create products that included organic fruit and yogurt. THE OUTCOME: ICON designed a range of elements, including product illustrations and packaging ideas, as well as the product design itself. Leveraging our extensive understanding of the packaged goods sector and gummy products, we created distinctive fruit shapes that emphasized the organic components and tapped into consumers' growing preference for natural foods.
