ADF: You Haven't Been Drinking Alone

Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF)

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges for everyone, significantly altering our environment and introducing new stresses that many people are struggling to cope with. One of the concerning responses in Australia has been a substantial increase in alcohol consumption, with around 30% of Australians reporting daily drinking, a rise from 6% in 2018. In response, Icon Agency was tasked by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) to spearhead a comprehensive communications campaign aimed at encouraging Australians to be more mindful of their drinking habits at home and adopt healthier behaviors. The ADF has a longstanding commitment to promoting responsible drinking and substance use among Australians. During the COVID-19 crisis, their emphasis has shifted towards urging Australians to reduce their alcohol intake at home, both for their own well-being and for the sake of their children. Children often model the behavior of their parents, and witnessing near-daily drinking can foster a negative relationship with alcohol as they grow. Therefore, the campaign needed to remind parents that their drinking habits can have broader implications beyond their personal health.

NDIS Commission Website

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an autonomous agency created to enhance the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services. Icon Agency was tasked with collaboratively designing and updating the Commission’s new Drupal 9 CMS website, while also enhancing the navigation and structure of the content for improved intuitiveness and accessibility. We are extremely proud of the results and appreciate the Commission for entrusting us with this crucial co-design initiative. The homepage layout addresses primary user types and their journeys, aiding visitors in understanding the complaints process before they begin their submission. Videos include sign language interpreters and transcripts to ensure accessibility. Each page features embedded screen readers, and important sections are available in Easy Read format. Landing pages have been implemented to divide lengthy content and facilitate easier navigation. Wireframe testing was conducted with NDIS providers and participants, including individuals with intellectual disabilities, to confirm that the requirements of all major user groups were met.

As online gambling and sports betting gain popularity, the associated issues, especially among younger individuals, are also on the rise. The City of Whittlesea enlisted Icon, with funding from the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, to collaborate with the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) on a campaign. This project involved 15 young residents of Whittlesea working alongside Icon Agency to design a campaign informed by their personal experiences with online gambling and sports betting, aiming to effectively convey the risks and self-help strategies to their peers. The accounts shared by these young individuals revealed a common theme: many young people are gambling more in an effort to fit in, and they are increasingly troubled by witnessing the negative effects of gambling on their friends, both financially and emotionally.
