Rebuilding a global B2B API to cover more than £500m in risk
A closer examination of how our Agile methodology achieves impressive outcomes reveals that our client is a top-tier, innovative iGaming insurance company globally. Their scalable platform effectively manages the risks associated with high-stakes lotteries, a critical requirement since lottery operators must always consider the possibility of players winning, regardless of the established odds. Our client takes on this risk on behalf of their customers in exchange for a fee on each insured wager. Their platform offers a B2B API for clients to relay game data and all insured bets, accommodating over 50 lottery formats. As the leading insurance provider enabling players to win prizes worth several million dollars, our client urgently needed a reliable and scalable platform. They sought a trustworthy team to develop their application’s APIs and maintain optimal performance. By leveraging our strong Agile project management techniques, we quickly assembled an ideal team for this development project. Our client already had a minimal-functionality MVP of their platform, and Hexis's first challenge was managing the project transition. This challenge was efficiently navigated, despite the lack of comprehensive technical documentation, requiring extensive reverse engineering efforts. Within six months, Hexis exceeded the original project scope. We not only introduced robust features to facilitate new customer acquisitions but also enhanced the application's AWS infrastructure and established a staging environment, significantly boosting the production environment's capabilities. Our client’s application provides a B2B API for clients to report insured bets and features a back-office system for managing partner and product configurations. We developed these components as a set of microservices using iterative processes to include all necessary features. Each service operates in an AWS infrastructure with a tech stack that includes Java 8, Spring Boot (MVC, Security, Data, Actuator), Angular, Hazelcast, AWS, Elasticsearch, NGINX, Tomcat, GitHub, Docker, Ansible, and Shell script. We utilize the Atlassian stack of Jira and Confluence for management. Hexis not only handled code development for our client but also played a crucial role in defining the success metrics for their product. By employing Agile methodologies, we effectively validated the software development project’s requirements, including introducing new features, refactoring, and ongoing enhancements. Since we were revamping an existing MVP, we adopted a SCRUM-based approach, allowing our team to prioritize desired new features alongside improved legacy code to foster robust software growth. Operating as a remote team presents certain challenges, which we addressed with a clearly defined development process that ensures quality: - Collaborating with the client/product owner to analyze required features before development. - Assessing the system impacts of these features and determining the optimal implementation strategy. - Communicating all development challenges and setbacks to the client to find the best solutions. - Incorporating automated tests to ensure the solutions meet set requirements. - Conducting code reviews and obtaining approval from at least one other team member. By adhering to these standards, we manage risks effectively and have never needed to execute an application rollback. This approach grants our clients transparency in the development process, minimizing miscommunication. Our client placed complete trust in the Hexis team and our capability to deliver a high-value, complex product.
