We strategised with Prostate Cancer UK to increase donations

Prostate Cancer UK received feedback from users indicating that their donation system had limitations for making both one-time and recurring contributions. Collaborating with the PCUK digital team, we sought solutions to provide users with more donation options. Our research revealed that the use of PayPal for donations was on the rise, with over 60% of the leading fundraising charities in the UK offering it as a payment method, which PCUK had not previously implemented. We recommended adding PayPal as the first step, scoped out the necessary requirements, and proceeded to development. We integrated PayPal into their donation page using the existing PCUK design, allowing the digital team to track data recorded in Umbraco Contour for transactions made through this platform. After the implementation, our QA team thoroughly tested the integration and launched the new donation form in Prostate Cancer UK's testing environment, with further evaluations carried out by their digital team. Following a final quality assurance check and approval, we made the final deployment to the live website. Since incorporating PayPal into their donation platform, Prostate Cancer UK has demonstrated responsiveness to user feedback and made changes according to their needs, which has led to an increase in donations.

Abbeyfield is a UK-based charity that offers sheltered accommodation and care facilities for seniors. Their mission focuses on minimizing isolation among residents who may have experienced the loss of a loved one or who rarely interact with family and friends. During a separate web initiative with Abbeyfield, Greenwood Campbell recognized the potential for further support aligned with Abbeyfield's goals. In an internal workshop, we developed the concept of providing residents with voice-activated assistants to create a sense of presence in their living environments. The house manager at Abbeyfield Westbourne introduced us to Professor Arlene Astell from Reading University to help us gain academic perspective on our project. To prepare for our first visit to the sheltered housing unit, we created a 'cheat sheet' in our office detailing how to activate the assistant, adjust the volume, and pose different types of questions, such as inquiries about the weather or initiating games. In early May 2019, we visited the local Abbeyfield home and equipped each of the five selected residents with their own voice assistant. We explained how to interact with the device and engaged them with questions to help them utilize the technology effectively. We aimed to ensure the voice assistant would enhance their lives, so we discussed their daily routines, feelings of loneliness, and how they spent their free time. After setting up the residents, we allowed them time to familiarize themselves with their voice assistants and committed to visiting them every two weeks to assist with any challenges or inquiries they might have. The project was a remarkable success, significantly improving the residents' lives in a positive manner.
