Cloud Migration: on-prem to Azure
**Client Intent**
Recognizing the necessity for improved security, availability, and scalability, the client—an operator of transportation critical infrastructure—decided to transition their on-premises virtual servers to the cloud. An additional factor in their decision was the total cost of ownership (TCO) benefits associated with cloud migration.
**Genieall Strategy**
Genieall has undertaken numerous cloud migration initiatives, typically following a consistent set of procedures.
**Genieall Implementation**
After outlining the project's phases, steps, and timelines, Genieall involved key stakeholders to set clear expectations. This collaboration allowed both Genieall and the client to proceed with the project with minimal surprises and no unexpected delays for client stakeholders. Although the initial migration focused on a limited scope, effective planning, communication, and execution ensured a smooth transition. This included establishing an Azure Landing Zone (covering Identity and Access Management, Networking, Subscriptions, Management Dashboards, Security, and Workloads), as well as data migration and geo-redundant cloud backup.
**Result**
The effective execution of the project resulted in a seamless migration that satisfied the client's intent, requirements, and expectations. This success established a foundation and built confidence, enabling the client to broaden the original project scope to include further Azure migrations.
**Learnings**
It is crucial to review and refine client requirements as this step often reveals expectations that may not be met by the project. Aligning client expectations with deliverables is key to achieving outstanding results for everyone involved.
