GitHub State of the Octoverse data report website
We collaborated with GitHub to create an interactive digital annual report called the "State of the Octoverse," which highlights trends in the software development industry. Our team converted data from four million sources into engaging maps, diagrams, and charts. We also developed a fully responsive website that allowed users to read, explore, and interact with the data insights provided in the report. GitHub's data scientists gathered and analyzed information from over 40,000 survey responses and four million repositories using various tools like Excel and PowerPoint. We used this data, along with GitHub's initial concepts and a 60-page context document, to carefully design each visual element. Our objective was to effectively present accurate insights while ensuring clarity and simplicity for both technical and non-technical audiences. The website is accessible on any device. The report's influence reached far beyond the website, generating numerous discussions on X and attracting nearly 1000 articles on digital magazines and specialized blogs. Prominent publications such as Developer Tech News, KDnuggets, InfoQ, The New Stack, and The Register featured the report, broadening its impact and fostering significant dialogue within the software development community.
