Reverse Image Search for an Image Library

Image Library and Licensing Service Company

Client Our client for this project was an image licensing service that possessed an extensive image library. Problem The client aimed to offer a reverse image search feature, enabling users to find similar images by uploading an existing one. This way, if users had an image they wanted to utilize or one that was somewhat related to their needs, they could upload it to search for comparable entries in the image database, ready for licensing and use. Solution We developed a new microservice to connect with the TinEye API, enhanced ElasticSearch functionalities, and incorporated a drag-and-drop feature for image uploads within the search bar. Users can upload an image via the form, which is then sent to a microservice integrating TinEye for processing. We indexed the image database in TinEye, providing a basis for searches. TinEye returns a JSON result set, which we further filtered through ElasticSearch. We created a service to send images from the client's database to TinEye for indexing. Additionally, we designed a user interface for image searches to facilitate easy drag-and-drop uploads and display results clearly. We also incorporated their existing search functionality, built on ElasticSearch, allowing users to filter by color, size, format, age, and more, in addition to conducting text-based searches. This way, users can search by image and apply further filters to refine their results.

Oil Field Logistics Service Company

**Client**: Our client is a leading provider of logistics and transload services in the oil field sector. They manage a nationwide network of transload terminals, handling millions of pounds of proppant, crude oil, and other materials as they are transported to and from trucks, railcars, silos, and various containers. **Problem**: Their inventory system operates in real-time, automatically ordering additional proppant from a company-operated loading facility, which is transported using their own trucks. This setup allows our client to assume full responsibility for supplying proppant at the drilling site. However, this responsibility also entails liability. The logistics company enters into contracts with clients to ensure proppant availability at the site, akin to a Service Level Agreement in critical IT services. Drilling oil wells necessitates the collaboration of multiple teams from various companies on-site, utilizing equipment worth millions. If the logistics company’s equipment fails or insufficient sand is delivered promptly, they must compensate the client for any productivity losses related to personnel and equipment. **Solution**: The bulk sand operators on site were already utilizing rugged Android tablets to manage equipment maintenance schedules, track company time, and access other resources. Therefore, we developed a mobile app that could be implemented on these existing devices. Our app features a versatile user interface that is visually appealing on smartphones, tablets, and desktops. Our framework enables us to create a single codebase that can be deployed across various platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux desktops, Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as web browsers in the form of a Single Page App (SPA) or Progressive Web App (PWA). Additionally, we utilize a cloud-based NoSQL database to offer a flexible backend for data storage.

**Client**: Our client is a leading provider of oil field logistics and transloading services. They operate a national network of transload terminals where they handle and transport millions of pounds of bulk materials including sand, crude oil, and more between trucks, railcars, silos, and other containers. Their offerings play a vital role in the North American energy supply chain. **Problem**: The client utilizes a proprietary cloud-based operations management system to monitor the movement of materials and assets at their various facilities. A crucial aspect of this system involves obtaining bill of lading signatures from truck drivers prior to their departure from the facility. Each location has unique requirements based on the equipment, facilities, and personnel available. Some locations employ desktop computers with USB signature pads, others use rugged mobile devices with touchscreens, and some utilize custom kiosks equipped with larger touchscreens. Regardless of the hardware utilized, it is essential that signatures are captured and stored in a uniform format for easy access during audits and verification. **Solution**: By implementing an open source jQuery signature plugin along with the proprietary SDK from the device manufacturer, we developed a single, reusable component capable of capturing signatures through various methods: signature pad, touchscreen, mouse drawing, and saving them as PNG files in the app's database. When a signature pad is connected, signatures are captured in real-time and displayed on the screen. If the signature pad is not available, the system smoothly transitions to an alternative method, providing a prompt to guide the user on installing the pad while remaining compatible with other signature capture options. Driver signatures are recorded within the web application alongside other truck-related information, supporting both hardware solutions like physical signature pads and digital signatures via mouse or touchscreen.
