John Holland rebrand

John Holland, one of Australia’s top engineering contractors, has played a pivotal role in some of the country's most significant projects for over 70 years, including Parliament House in Canberra and the WestConnex project in Sydney. Despite their extensive market presence, they had never clearly defined the essence of their brand. With the infrastructure sector becoming increasingly competitive and a battle for talent underway, the time had come to establish their core direction. The new branding effort aimed not only at securing new projects but also at fostering a unified culture, as many employees were distributed across the nation and working within various project teams. The revamped brand was seen as essential for unifying their culture. “Our new brand allows us to clearly and succinctly communicate our purpose, values, and unique qualities, making it simpler for everyone to understand what we represent and its importance. This will enhance our competitiveness and focus, highlighting our proficiency in tackling challenging tasks. It also strengthens our brand message by prioritizing people and showcasing what makes us exceptional,” stated Joe Barr, CEO of John Holland. The rebranding has yielded measurable success, with market research indicating an 11% increase in their overall market image, now at 85% positive since the relaunch. Additionally, internal engagement has risen significantly, with the net promoter score improving from +1 to +17 points—one of the best scores in the industry. Moreover, the rebranding has allowed the company to streamline its marketing efforts and messaging, enabling a cohesive articulation of their unique strengths.

Nine Entertainment Company workplace

After their significant merger, Nine Entertainment Company sought to bring their new brands and employees together in a single location. This presented our team with the chance to influence the future workspace of Australia's leading media company. The new facility was designed to house television studios, radio stations, historically significant print outlets, digital platforms, and video streaming services all in one building. We created an innovative graphic and signage system to energize the space, fostering connections among employees, the building, each brand, and their collective achievements, thereby nurturing a proud and cohesive workplace. Our design philosophy emphasizes the visual form to enhance navigational functionality. Drawing inspiration from Nine Entertainment’s original logo, we deconstructed it to create a refined line and dot element. By experimenting with form, scale, and materials, this element can be applied in various visual and functional contexts throughout the workplace. It appears in everything from floor-to-ceiling identification signs to signage construction, flexible magnetic tags on directory maps, and simple pictograms for wayfinding. The environmental graphics are designed to embody the unified vision of the workplace. By extending the line and dot motif into a minimal yet iconic graphic device, these graphics blend seamlessly with the interior design. A set of Graphic Guidelines outlines dimensions, materials, and image selection considerations to help the client maintain visual coherence while showcasing a rich tapestry of their achievements. Throughout the corridors, signage, lobbies, and elevators, the striking graphic treatment emanates the significance of the new company, fostering a proud and unified atmosphere for the brands and individuals shaping the Australian media landscape now and in the future.

Sydney Airport repositioning and branding

Sydney Airport aimed to instill pride in Sydney every day. To achieve this, it sought a fresh direction and brand positioning to reinforce its role in the changing transport tourism sector. As a gateway to both the city and the world, the airport embodies first impressions, lasting memories, and countless human stories. We shifted the brand from Sydney Airport to Sydney’s Airport, highlighting its essence—humanity, warmth, energy, and optimism. The existing airport code logo was modernized with bolder, more contemporary typography. The visual identity is enhanced through engaging colors, patterns, and natural photography that reflect the spirit of Sydney, aiming to evoke an emotional connection with the brand. “Sydney embodies many facets—it's an international city, a cultural hub, a distinctive landscape bathed in light and energy. Our goal was to link the world to that unique Sydney experience, the transformations we undergo, the emotions we feel, and the cherished memories we revisit,” said Ant Donovan, Executive Creative Director of Frost*. The gradient logo implies luminosity and movement, and the expansive color palette captures the vibrancy and diversity of Sydney. We intended to celebrate the brand’s offerings against the backdrop of Sydney’s iconic landscape, creating a strong sense of place and making Sydney proud. The messaging framework, “From want to need, from paddock to plate, from today to tomorrow,” illustrates the range of airport services like tax-free shopping, dining, and parking, while the emotive tone conveys the joy of travel. "Our brand has leaned towards corporate in the past, and our Centenary presented the perfect opportunity for a reset. We’re excited about the work from the Frost* team and look forward to implementing it across various platforms,” stated Geoff Culbert, CEO of Sydney Airport.
