About the Team
OUR STORY
Emergent Works, established in 2020 by Alex Qin, began as Code Cooperative, a mentorship initiative designed to empower formerly incarcerated individuals through coding skills. Army Armstead, an alum of the inaugural cohort, exemplifies the organization's mission by progressing from mentee to co-founder and Executive Director. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Army pioneered the first virtual mentorship program connecting software engineers with returning citizens, laying the groundwork for a broader movement that combines technology, creativity, and community to create opportunities for marginalized populations. Dedicated to fostering freedom through digital fluency, Emergent Works offers programs like T.RAP and T.E.C.K., blending technical education with creative expression and mentorship. With impactful results, including high certification rates, employment success, and community leadership, Emergent Works champions technology
