EY - Utilizing AI to serve as a Compliance Officer
EY, one of the largest professional services networks globally, offers a diverse range of services such as consulting, assurance, tax, and transactional support. In 2020, we assisted EY in developing a Virtual Compliance Officer (VCO), a whistleblowing platform that allows anonymous reporting of misconduct. At first, compliance officers were equipped with various tools to efficiently handle whistleblower submissions, including a smart document repository, user-friendly case management, and a chat interface. After discussions with clients, EY chose to enhance the efficiency of the document repository by incorporating AI, leading to the creation of its first AI-powered Virtual Compliance Officer. The GPT VCO streamlines manual processes and offers employees quick access to regulations and an AI-enabled chat for compliance inquiries. The project focuses on a self-service, AI-driven compliance portal that utilizes EY's comprehensive document repository. To ensure optimal response quality, we deployed several AI models, including those from OpenAI, an image processing model for text extraction from images, and a multilingual model. A significant challenge faced during the project was ensuring that the bot could generate embeddings, enabling it to analyze and compare documents in multiple languages to validate compliance with both local and international regulations at the same time.
