The smaller the training dataset, the harder it is to achieve high test accuracy. DiveDeepAI undertook a research and development project with a dataset of 100 labeled images to identify forged elements in identification documents. Essentially, the goal was to pinpoint areas of forgery. The team began by employing the ELA filter to distinguish between signals from original and forged components. The next phase involved generating additional data from the original dataset, which was accomplished by cropping images and creating pairs of genuine samples. This approach led to an imbalanced training dataset, as there were significantly more labeled real parts than forged ones. To address this imbalance, the team developed a specialized function to generate 20,000 images (incorporating noise and rotations) that balanced the dataset with equal numbers of fake and real labels. Subsequently, they applied the ELA filter to these images and extracted features using the RESNET architecture. Finally, the team trained a support vector machine (SVM) using linear and rtf kernels for classification, achieving a 73.9% accuracy with a standard deviation of 87.7%. Additionally, the committed DiveDeepAI team created a Flask API to classify forged components utilizing this limited dataset.
