**The Challenge** The Hamilton County Auditor's Office is responsible for managing all financial matters related to the government across the county, which includes handling property taxes for thousands of homes. Over the past ten years, the County had been continuously improving its outdated PDF-based legacy software by integrating data from various internal systems to meet evolving business needs. However, as the system became increasingly convoluted and the technology outdated, the County's IT department recognized the need to rebuild the system. The team started defining requirements aimed at modernizing the development and design practices. As the project scope expanded in complexity, it became clear that they needed to collaborate with a software partner who could provide new insights and supply faster, dedicated developers to ensure they met a reasonable deadline. **The Result** The newly developed portal advanced this essential tool by a decade in terms of technology, incorporating best practices in UI/UX design and software programming. This upgrade enabled individuals, mortgage companies, and property managers to easily access property histories, values, and taxes. Following the rebuild, we have also collaborated with the Hamilton County team to implement further improvements to the portal, such as facilitating the submission of property deduction (exemption) forms, which had previously been a common source of errors, leading to significant delays. This enhancement not only creates a more user-friendly experience for end users but also reduces the time the Auditor’s staff spends on customer support and correcting forms. In its first operational year in 2017, the digital exemption portal processed 5,000 submissions.
