MyPoppy.ca Website Development

The Royal Canadian Legion (with Basno)

Basno and the Royal Canadian Legion aimed to develop a new bilingual web application in English and French that would allow users to make donations and connect effortlessly to Basno’s platform for creating customized poppies in under a month. This application needed to be compatible with both desktop and mobile devices while integrating with Basno's platform, enabling users to share their completed poppies on social media. Additionally, the web app had to utilize the Bandora payment gateway for processing donations. The website required a mechanism for users to complete a form to receive their digital poppy and make their contributions. To achieve this, Cheeky Monkey Media collaborated closely with Critical Mass and Basno to define the website's objectives and propose a development strategy. Cheeky Monkey Media recommended starting from scratch with custom coding for integrations and implementing designs provided by Critical Mass. When development commenced, Cheeky Monkey Media ensured that the project met its deadline, leading to the launch during the week of October 26, 2018. The site received significant promotion from DDB Canada and has been widely utilized every year from October 30 to November 11, including by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

ELI Website Migration, Enhancement, Maintenance

Environmental Law Institute

The Situation When Cheeky Monkey Media was contacted by the Environmental Law Institute (ELI), the organization required a major design overhaul. The website's appearance was becoming outdated, and navigation had become problematic. Although the Drupal 6 platform had initially met their requirements, as more content was added, the site's usability and flow deteriorated. Users found it challenging to search for articles, information, and publications, resulting in a frustrating browsing experience. Given the organization's focus on events, publications, and educational materials, addressing the site's design and information architecture was essential. The Solution While ELI's main goal was to enhance the site's look, it quickly became apparent that substantial work was needed to improve not just the navigation but also the overall organization of topics, types of articles, and information. Cheeky Monkey implemented a comprehensive card sorting procedure to help ELI define topic categories for developing an intuitive and efficient Information Architecture. From a structured IA to creating wireframe layouts, the user journey on the site was carefully designed for the best possible experience. With a design rooted in a strong strategy, the creative team produced a modern, professional aesthetic for ELI that not only invited visitors to explore the site but also enabled them to easily find specific information. Cheeky Monkey has remained a trusted expert for ELI's website needs.

Website Redesign - Wenco

Wenco

**The Situation** Prior to the redesign, Wenco's homepage experienced a bounce rate exceeding 50%, indicating that more than half of potential customers exited the site without engaging further—this was a significant issue. Wenco aimed to reduce their bounce rate and increase the number of pages viewed per session as their primary objectives for the new website. As reported by SEMRush, the number of pages per session ranks as the third most crucial metric for Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), while the bounce rate is fourth. Therefore, it was essential for us to focus on improving these metrics. **The Solution** To identify the most critical design choices, we created landing pages and carried out several A/B tests to discover the optimal configurations. We explored various copywriting styles, messaging, and placements for calls to action, among other elements. With the results from these tests, we could make informed decisions, supported by data, to enhance each page component in line with Wenco's objectives. We discovered that even minor adjustments and nuanced changes in content could influence the bounce rate by nearly 15%! This was a positive development. Moving forward, we implemented engaging visuals, user-friendly navigation, and clear messaging to enhance the web experience for Wenco. The results were impressive; we managed to reduce the bounce rate from over 50% to below 28%. Initially, Wenco’s homepage had a bounce rate of 50.15%, but after the redesign, the rate dropped by 36.21%, ultimately reaching 27.9%. The average number of pages viewed in each session rose by 33.75%, and sessions lasted 67.14% longer than before! In addition to lowering the bounce rate and increasing page views and time spent on those pages, we also improved the average page load time by 16.2% and the average download time by 23.1%. That's impressive efficiency!
