TU7UHARI Brand Identity

TU7UHARI Coffee, located in Dharmawangsa, operates with a concept centered around the culture of productivity, offering a fresh perspective marked by simple yet impactful visual elements. Since its opening last November, TU7UHARI has clearly distinguished itself in an increasingly similar industry landscape. Challenge: Coffee shops have become a popular gathering place for many in Jakarta, which has led to a saturation of similar coffee venues. While the city's third-wave coffee culture is gaining traction, the rapid increase in coffee shops means that many ultimately present similar concepts. This environment prompted the TU7UHARI team to seek assistance in refining their branding concept, ideation, as well as visual identity system and development. Approach: Collaborating closely with the TU7UHARI team, we identified potential opportunities for the new coffee shop. We focused on the founders' belief that work-life balance isn't universally applicable. This idea aligns perfectly with a demographic we refer to as 'Highly Productive Millennials'; ambitious individuals who thrive outside the traditional 9-to-5 structure. We utilized this insight as our foundation. Main Insight: Many of these highly productive millennials frequent coffee shops for meetings and socializing. Unlike the average customers, they strive to integrate productivity into everyday tasks. For them, casual meet-ups function as networking opportunities, attending events becomes a learning experience, and working in a bustling coffee shop fosters new ideas. Furthermore, coffee is often considered a productivity booster—conveniently available for delivery or on the go, providing a reliable source of energy anytime, anywhere. This led us to redefine “Work-Life Balance” through the TU7UHARI perspective: “Life becomes more fulfilling when balance is achieved not through rigid schedules, but through flexible productive activities and fun.” Deliverables: The name TU7UHARI, which translates to 'seven days' in Bahasa, represents the lives of these high achievers who remain productive even on weekends, driven solely by their ambition. Drawing inspiration from the seven celestial bodies of Babylon, we designed a monogram featuring seven lines representing these stars. At first glance, the lines may appear disorganized, but a closer inspection reveals the '7' and 'H' hidden within the design. The dot within the monogram emphasizes TU7UHARI's role as the ideal gathering spot for productivity. Additionally, we subtly integrated the number 7 into the logo by replacing the 'J' with '7', employing a modern monospace typeface to enhance the brand's contemporary, clean, and minimalist aesthetic. “A clever way to highlight TU7UHARI's uniqueness is by substituting 'J' with '7', creating a playful element while retaining the original pronunciation. Thus, TU7UHARI is easily shareable in daily conversations, reinforcing our core identity,” shared Lavie, Co-Founder of TU7UHARI. "Our focus on the straightforward yet distinctive visual elements of TU7UHARI Coffee reveals a vibrant culture of productivity that underpins the café's overall brand identity, capturing the attention of all who encounter it," says the featured article in Manual Jakarta, “A Matter of Design: Tujuhari Coffee,” published on March 26, 2020. This article series by Manual Jakarta highlights notable branding and design of lifestyle venues across the city.

Mad For Lipstick Rebranding

Earlier this year, Mad For Lipstick introduced its product. Feedback from the market indicated that many consumers viewed Mad For Lipstick as just another matte liquid lipstick lacking unique qualities. In reaction to this, the brand aimed to enhance its identity and improve its business performance to differentiate itself from competitors. As part of this initiative, we assisted the brand team in defining its core essence as a cosmetics brand, which served as a foundation for developing a more defined brand concept. We established the theme of ‘The Radical Beauty’ and used this idea to create a launch campaign featuring the #BreakTheStandard activation.

The skincare line emphasizes daily use to promote healthier-looking skin, while the cosmetics aim to enhance women's features without harming their skin, providing safe options. As a brand extension of ZAPClinic, a renowned leader and recipient of the TOP BRAND 2016 award for The Best Beauty Clinic in Indonesia, ZAPBeauty's goal is to make healthy skincare and cosmetics accessible to everyone. The brand prioritizes the use of safe, skin-friendly ingredients. To begin, we developed a smart and dynamic brand identity that resonates with upper-middle-class Indonesian consumers. ZAPBeauty's new tagline is ‘As Beautiful As You’, reflecting the belief that true beauty is both aesthetically pleasing and healthy. To convey our identity as a beauty brand, we seek a visual system that embodies effortless beauty, as good health is an immediate representation of beauty in life. We drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the golden ratio of Phyllotaxis, a pattern prevalent in nature, seashells, galaxies, and the human body. This beautiful, adaptable concept serves as a vessel we can continually redefine. A diamond-shaped dot symbolizes the harmony between health and beauty, radiating from the center outward to infinity and representing the glow of healthy beauty.
