The penetration test was successful for the client, demonstrating our effectiveness and surpassing the capabilities of their previous security provider.

Penetration testing - Riding Startup

The client is a ride-hailing startup based in Africa, featuring numerous drivers and customers. They requested a penetration test for their web and mobile applications, which was conducted over seven days. Our engagement with the client took place from May 9 to May 17, 2022. During the testing, we uncovered several significant vulnerabilities within their mobile and web applications. The mobile app, used by over 500 users, had a critical flaw that could have enabled an attacker to take over other users' accounts, potentially exposing sensitive information such as credit card data and recent locations. Additionally, we accessed personally identifiable information (PII) of both drivers and customers through a single driver account, leading to data leaks and account takeovers, as one of the microservice APIs also compromised a user's authentication details. In total, our assessment team identified more than 50 vulnerabilities.

Penetration testing for an emerging fintech client

The client is a fintech startup based in Africa. We conducted a 5-day penetration test on their externally facing assets, including their websites and mobile applications. Our consultants began by gathering intelligence on these assets and uncovered several vulnerabilities of low impact. Although the client had previously completed a penetration test before engaging us, we believed our approach could identify additional vulnerabilities with significant business implications. We discovered multiple API endpoints that were exposing sensitive information, such as transaction details, without proper authorization. Notably, we identified a critical flaw in the API related to password resets, which enabled us to reset passwords and access over 6,000 user accounts in a single attempt. Additionally, we found an outdated asset that had a misconfiguration allowing the PUT method, which enabled us to execute server-side operations. Following our assessment, we classified the client's risk level as Critical, given the overall potential impact on their business.
