How We Discovered an Opportunity in Crisis The COVID-19 pandemic affected businesses worldwide, but the tourism industry was particularly severely impacted. In Egypt's early stages of the pandemic, however, statistics indicated that the Red Sea region had no reported cases. PR Opportunity With the media's intense focus on the crisis, we aimed to highlight the positive aspects of the situation. We invited international and European journalists based in Egypt to visit El Gouna, allowing them to see firsthand the local tourism dynamics, the COVID-19 safety measures implemented, and the preparedness of El Gouna Hospital. The Outcome The media trip resulted in extensive coverage from notable outlets such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, Agenzia Nova, and Al Rai. Articles were published globally by various national and international media, generating an estimated PR value of nearly $6 million.

How we managed the deal of the year - A US$244 million acquisition of Egypt’s Commercial International Bank. When Actis entered the Egyptian market in 2008, few were aware of this UK-based firm that invests in emerging markets. Public Relations Opportunity The chance arose when Actis grabbed attention with the year's largest deal, investing US$244 million to become the primary shareholder in CIB. Effective media relations were crucial; prompt responses to media inquiries were essential—both locally and internationally—along with managing interview requests, providing quotes, ensuring accurate reporting, and conducting daily media monitoring and reporting, all of which contributed significantly to this success story. The Outcome Remarkable media coverage across various outlets. In Egypt, the acquisition was featured in over 100 articles across top-tier media, reaching more than 32 million people and generating a PR value exceeding $400,000.
