Wallara Australia

A five-year collaboration with the strategic communications firm Banksia Strategic Partners has empowered Wallara Australia to advocate for and create opportunities for Australians with disabilities, despite increased scrutiny in the sector. Over these five years, Wallara has partnered with Banksia—an organization that bridges politics, policy, and public affairs—to drive meaningful change. Their primary objectives included raising awareness for underrepresented disabilities. While awareness and conversations about the experiences of individuals with various abilities have grown over the past decade, Wallara's CEO, Phil Hayes-Brown, noted that individuals with intellectual disabilities are often overlooked in the media and popular culture. This led to the creation of "Invis-ability," a podcast hosted by Phil and former Paralympian Don Elgin, which features discussions with individuals from the intellectual disability community to shed light on what remains unknown about disabilities. Banksia collaborated closely with Phil and also provided support for various initiatives. Wallara Australia is now thriving, with expanding operations and services that aim to improve the lives of even more people with disabilities.

Lime Case Study

Lime

When Lime entered the Australian market, they encountered challenges in accessing major markets due to outdated state laws and complicated regulatory frameworks that limited electric scooter usage. However, considering Lime's success elsewhere, the potential of micromobility to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce vehicle emissions, along with a shift in Australia’s transport preferences during the pandemic, Lime deemed the project worthwhile. They enlisted Banksia Strategic Partners to spearhead efforts in engaging key stakeholders, managing strategic communications, and capturing market share in Australia. Initially, Banksia was instrumental in successfully extending Lime’s e-scooter trial in Brisbane. However, concerns arose regarding the safety of Lime's products when there were rare incidents of the Gen 2.5 e-scooter suddenly stopping. In light of the ACCC’s concerns, Banksia expanded its role to include developing and implementing a legal strategy, managing media relations, and other strategic communication initiatives to safeguard Lime’s brand and reputation while strengthening their market position. Additionally, we collaborated with Lime to establish enhanced administrative processes to ensure ongoing compliance with reporting requirements. These efforts yielded positive outcomes, effectively reducing the financial and reputational risks Lime faced. Furthermore, micromobility is reshaping transportation in Australia, and Banksia is prepared to assist organizations like Lime in navigating this transformation.
