Copyediting and Proofreading for the Heart Foundation’s Website Redevelopment
**Overview** Redeveloping an entire website of over 130 pages is a significant task. When we got the chance to collaborate with the national heart health charity, the Heart Foundation, we eagerly accepted. Our objective was to ensure that the content would:
- Be clear, engaging, and informative
- Follow a logical hierarchy of information
- Use user-friendly, plain language
- Implement best practices for SEO and web accessibility
- Maintain the Heart Foundation’s distinct tone of voice across the new site.
**Process** With a clear understanding of the Heart Foundation's tone, we began the project by creating a content template for the new web copy. This step was crucial for maintaining consistency in both on-page and off-page content throughout the site. We incorporated metadata like meta descriptions and titles to optimize the new website for search engines. Given the tight project timeline, we worked in sprints, completing each content batch in a few days. This rapid and high-quality output allowed the Heart Foundation to stay on schedule. We meticulously tracked our edits with clear explanations for stakeholders, eliminating the need for extensive back-and-forth and facilitating quick approvals. Drawing on principles of SEO, user experience (UX), and web accessibility, we organized the content into a clear and logical structure. Our strategic edits ensured consistency in tone, layout, and readability.
**Results** The revamped Heart Foundation website completely redefines the traditional online experience. It provides a personalized, user-centric platform that effectively highlights assistance, information, and support tailored to each user's needs. Our editing and writing seamlessly integrated with the new design’s focus on the audience. Most importantly, we ensured that all content was consistent, easy to understand, and conveyed a tone appropriate for a life-saving national charity.
