Northern Trains, a train operating company, offers services throughout Northern England and has over 500 stations, linking key cities such as Manchester, Leeds, and Newcastle. The company is essential for transporting and commuting thousands of passengers daily. Background: Northern Trains faced a significant number of customer service calls regarding journey planning, which involved assisting passengers not only during their train travels but also in reaching their end destinations, including more remote areas where taxi arrangements were necessary. Recognizing this challenge, the company aimed to improve their customer service by providing a comprehensive transport experience. Solution: Audacia collaborated with Northern to develop an AI chatbot for WhatsApp that utilizes natural language processing to manage customer inquiries related to live train information. Similar to a live departure board found at stations, the chatbot is designed to display relevant train schedules, including any delays. It can also share contact information for local taxi services at the destination station. This allows customers to receive real-time departure updates with questions like: “When is the next train from Leeds to Manchester?” Results:

**Client**: The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is the largest health and care research funding body in the nation. **Background**: The NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) needed a new financial platform to replace its outdated finance tool. This new system would assure the Department of Health and Social Care that the funds allocated to the 15 Local Clinical Research Networks were being utilized effectively and appropriately. The CRN Coordinating Centre (CRNCC) required a secure, centralized, and highly resilient platform that could adapt to its changing needs, allowing for accurate tracking of forecasts and matching actual expenses to the correct categories. Additionally, the system needed to validate user inputs, provide comprehensive audit trails for analysis, and integrate with other systems to accommodate future reporting requirements. It was also essential for the platform to identify trends and opportunities for improving expenditure efficiency. **Solution**: Audacia's team took a collaborative approach, partnering with CRNCC’s domain experts, business analysts, and end-users to develop a robust and secure financial platform. Utilizing a user-focused development strategy, we mapped workflows and defined user journeys, producing prototypes for key functionalities to allow for early user testing and quick feedback. However, the reliance on manual reviews made it challenging to effectively identify inaccurate or overestimated bills on a large scale. To adopt a more data-driven strategy, the client sought to implement a machine learning solution capable of recognizing billing inaccuracies among thousands of customers. Solution: Audacia collaborated closely with the client’s team to create a machine learning application designed to spot inaccuracies in billing estimates. We chose Scikit-Learn as the primary framework due to its user-friendliness, versatility, and extensive tools for machine learning.
