Dr. Contact Lens had an ambitious vision to enable patients to place orders directly through their doctor's office. This system would sync with patients' electronic medical records (EMRs), allowing for a seamless one-click ordering process. The aim was to eliminate complicated verification procedures and prevent unnecessary use of insurance benefits, creating a beneficial situation for both doctors and patients. It would provide a hassle-free way to receive contact lenses by the next day. Challenge: Asamblo was tasked with developing a platform from the ground up, including the foundational architecture and a modular environment to support the new DCL solution. The platform needed to integrate smoothly with various lens vendors to streamline purchases for customers. Asamblo was called upon to act as the IT team partner to scale the entire solution rapidly while meeting all requirements. Solution: Asamblo built an API to synchronize prescriptions issued to patients with multiple EMR systems. The cloud-based architecture now supports thousands of transactions per minute. Patients referred by various professionals can easily create a password and submit their purchase orders along with their prescriptions. DCL has integrated several lens vendors, allowing direct sales to patients and significantly lowering the final costs. We established an ongoing improvement process for implementation, which accelerated the response time from initial feature requests to deployment. Results: We have assisted DCL in developing a fully functional platform through agile work iterations. This agility enabled the business to rapidly respond to high-demand scenarios, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. Statistics show that over a year since its launch, DCL has attracted over 100 new subscribed optometrists, processed 3,500 purchase orders, and synced with 35,000 patients.
