The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is a leading nonprofit dedicated to protecting digital privacy, free speech, and fostering innovation. Recognizing that corporations sometimes breach user trust and human rights, EFF actively holds them accountable, empowered by community support. Collective efforts have successfully pressured companies to uphold user protections, and EFF remains committed to continuing this work. In the Americas, ongoing challenges like weak accountability and inadequate legal safeguards have led to systemic human rights violations without proper remedies. To address this, EFF has released the guide "Tackling Arbitrary Digital Surveillance in the Americas," leveraging human rights principles to challenge state surveillance abuses. Additionally, their advocacy contributed to Apple and Google's move to implement end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging, enhancing user privacy.
