Tax Portal

Broadridge

The Tax Portal was an essential Business-to-Business application designed for brokerage firms like Charles Schwab, TD Ameritrade, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley. Its main purpose was to help these firms evaluate their tax liabilities based on the assets they manage for clients. Our role in the Tax Portal project involved leading thorough research and holding workshops to gather insights directly from clients. During these sessions, we explored challenges related to IRS audits and pinpointed critical information necessary for informed decision-making. While each client had specific characteristics, adhering to the industry standards set by FINRA and the SEC enabled us to customize the solution to fit their individual needs effectively. The design and development process was carried out with great care, using Broadridge's Design System based on Bootstrap 3. To present data clearly, we integrated Fusion Charts and utilized Datatables.net for organizing large amounts of information. This thorough approach ensured that the Tax Portal not only met but surpassed the expectations of brokerage firms, allowing them to navigate complex tax issues with confidence and efficiency.

Unified Billing System

Morgan Stanley

The objective of this project was to create a comprehensive internal billing application from scratch for Morgan Stanley, a prominent American investment management and financial services firm. We needed to approach this initiative by examining not only the tools involved but the entire workflow. During this analysis, we found that the existing process relied on an outdated DOS command line system, which presented a steep learning curve and necessitated extensive training. Additionally, it involved using a web-based system to address billing discrepancies, significant manual work in Excel, and macros. Overall, the process of identifying, diagnosing, and correcting billing errors was found to be extremely inefficient. The new system and associated processes are part of a multi-year effort to develop a solution on a responsive web platform. I served as the sole lead User Experience and User Interface Designer, overseeing strategy, research, project management, and the design of the final user experience.
