Big Wins with Wee Big Yins

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity

To aid Buchanan Galleries' charitable partner, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, we developed a special collection of limited-edition minifigures to honor the remarkable career and diverse talents of Billy Connolly, a cherished figure from Glasgow. The ‘Wee Big Yins’ were available for purchase at Buchanan Galleries, with all proceeds going to the charity. The initiative was extremely successful, not only in attracting media attention and increasing visitor numbers to the center, but it also set a new fundraising record for the charity. We distributed a press release to announce the minifigures, followed by another release after the sale detailing the total funds raised. Social media played a key role in promoting the minifigures' launch to generate excitement leading up to the sale, while our Studio team crafted all the necessary promotional materials for the website, social media, and in-center displays. To maintain engagement after the event and encourage more website sign-ups, we launched a free competition on the website for a chance to win a complete set of the minifigures. On the day of the sale, the ‘Wee Big Yins’ sold out in just four hours, accumulating a total of £9,766—marking the highest amount ever raised by the charity in a shopping center. The campaign achieved 33 pieces of coverage across 17 different publications, including national articles as well as extensive regional print, online, and broadcast exposure. Notably, Sir Billy Connolly remarked that being turned into a minifigure was one of the highlights of his career, and the ‘Wee Big Yins’ were featured in a documentary about his life.

International Brewing & Cider Awards

Recognized as the ‘Oscars’ of the brewing industry, we partnered with the International Brewing & Cider Awards to enhance visibility for their competition among both trade and consumer media. We achieved over 200 media mentions globally, with 97 of these occurring prior to the awards. Our comprehensive strategy integrated media relations, social media, and traditional advertising on an international level. To maintain a consistent flow of coverage in global trade publications before the awards, we initiated our press efforts early and developed a variety of press materials, ensuring all content was fresh, pertinent, and compelling. To boost our efforts and effectively target our primary audience in the brewing and cider-making sectors, we executed a range of paid social media campaigns and digital advertisements.

Taking Off With Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook

After a competitive selection process, Umpf was chosen to reintroduce the Thomas Cook brand as a digital-only entity. We secured over 2,000 media mentions globally, with coverage from every major UK newspaper, all key trade publications, and numerous regional outlets. Preparations for the press office activities began two months prior to the launch, involving detailed media planning, creating comprehensive media lists, developing key messages, and formulating a News Plan. To maintain momentum and ensure a steady stream of coverage after the launch, we collaborated with national travel media to provide weekly last-minute deal updates and proactive reactions to weekly travel corridor announcements, in addition to creating spontaneous PR stories. Umpf also handled the Thomas Cook press office for incoming journalist inquiries via calls and emails. The launch received coverage from all UK national newspapers, essential trade media, and hundreds of regional sources. Broadcast mentions included segments on ITV News at Ten (featuring an interview with the CEO and a 10-second brand advertisement), BBC Radio 5, BBC Radio 2, Virgin Radio, along with a syndicated hourly news feature on UK commercial radio stations.
