Since 2010, banks in Ukraine have been implementing Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) in accordance with ISO 27001/ISO 27002 standards as well as local regulatory requirements. From 2011 onwards, we have completed 17 projects, providing assurance for ISMS or specific processes (such as access management and incident management) for various Ukrainian banks (ranging from capital to retail, corporate, and investment sectors, with 30 to 5000 employees), representing approximately 25% of all banks in Ukraine (regulatory statistics for the system can be found online). The main aim of these assurance projects was to help prioritize security budgets to enhance security measures and comply with future regulations while working within limited resources. Additionally, each project included specific requests from clients, such as due diligence for employees or monetary risk assessments. Typical deliverables included (1) a compliance report, (2) a management report, and (3) a presentation for management. The accompanying image demonstrates a component of our methodology used in these projects (ISO27002 combined with local compliance requirements). The duration of each project varied, lasting from 2 weeks for a review to 2.5 months for a comprehensive ISMS audit. We adhere strictly to non-disclosure agreements for these projects, including details of contracts, allowing us to describe our work only in aggregate, fostering trust with our clients.

We provide support to internal audit teams as outside experts by either leading or being part of the team, sharing our knowledge, experience, methodologies, and approaches as needed. These projects adhere to audit best practices such as IPPF 2070, ISA 620, and ITAF 1206/2206, and typically take place within established audit plans. In our practice, we have delivered a variety of projects aimed at ensuring business continuity. These include drafting Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP), as well as assessing BCP compliance with ISO 22301. Typically, a project spans 2.5 to 3 months and involves collaborating closely with the client's team to create a practical planning approach. We conduct a comprehensive business review through a Business Impact Analysis (BIA), assist in scenario development, facilitate testing preparations, and aid in documentation. Over the years, we have witnessed the results of these planning efforts. However, it is important to note that business continuity planning has its limits and cannot supersede decisions (or lack thereof) made by business owners, whether they are private, corporate, or public.
