**BACKGROUND** Please describe your company and your role. I serve as a Senior UX Prototyper at Motional, an American company focused on autonomous vehicles. Established in March 2020, it is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv. **OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE** Why did your company engage Tumba Solutions, and what objectives were you aiming to achieve? We needed to prototype automotive experiences that are challenging to test in real life due to technological, legal, and financial constraints. These experiences may not currently exist or may require extensive research. Our goal was to provide findings to various teams for evaluation in a production context. Tumba Solutions was instrumental in connecting us with the right people and demonstrated flexibility with changing requirements. **SOLUTION** How did you choose this vendor, and what factors influenced your decision? Motional has collaborated with Tumba on several internal projects over the last 4-5 years, and I have worked with them on multiple initiatives, both past and present. I chose to work with Tumba due to their aptitude for transforming complex concepts into practical results. They are the best team I’ve encountered in my tech career. Please describe the project in detail, including steps, key deliverables, and technologies utilized. The Tumba team assisted in developing and designing 3D environments, physics simulations, and features for automotive development. Depending on the project, the Motional team would consult with Tumba to share insights regarding upcoming work. We discussed the advantages and drawbacks of each project, its implementation, and impacts on Motional. We also covered work distribution and project estimates, using a sprint model to coordinate with other teams. During the project's progression, we met biweekly to sync with Motional teams and internally with Tumba. The final output of these efforts was a standalone 3D application tested with selected users to better gauge the aesthetics and emotional implications of autonomous vehicles. Their input has also led to engineering adjustments by offering new perspectives that were previously overlooked. **RESULTS & FEEDBACK** Can you provide any measurable outcomes from the project or general feedback on the deliverables? Tumba Solutions consistently delivered on time and fulfilled all our requests. They worked effectively with various Motional teams, often simultaneously, resulting in positive outcomes. Their contributions greatly enhanced our research and design processes, allowing us to preview automotive CAD that doesn’t yet exist, facilitating better decisions on HMI/ergonomics, creating a series of repeatable tests for both on-site and remote evaluations, and helping Motional grasp the importance of creating modular 3D environments and props for machine learning projects. Describe their project management approach, including communication methods and punctuality. Tumba’s project management style has been excellent to engage with and observe. They maintain transparency, are punctual, and communicate openly. They are always willing to discuss challenges to find mutually beneficial solutions. We primarily use Slack for messaging and Zoom for calls. What impressed you the most about this company? Their meticulous attention to detail, balanced with an empathetic understanding of both real-world constraints and technical expectations, stands out. Their skill in collaborating with diverse personalities while maintaining clear focus is quite rare. Are there any areas where they could improve or aspects they could have handled differently? Honestly, they have been an outstanding partner, and I find it difficult to identify any significant areas that need improvement.
